The 16th Osaka Asian Film Festival was held from 5 to 14 March 2021. Apart from choosing a Hong Kong documentary “Keep Rolling” which features the famous Hong Kong film maker Ann Hui as its opening film, the Film Festival also featured a “Special Focus on Hong Kong” programme showcasing a total of six Hong Kong movies.
In addition, with the support of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Tokyo), a Hong Kong Gala Screening featuring the locally-produced Cantonese movie “Hand Rolled Cigarette” was held on 12 March 2021 at the ABC Hall in Osaka.
In a video message shown at the Gala Screening, the Principal Representative of the Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office (Tokyo), Ms Joyce Ho, noted that this year marked the 10th anniversary of partnership between Hong Kong Economic and Trade Office and the Osaka Asian Film Festival.
“Thanks to the annual Film Festival, we have been able to promote Hong Kong films to the Japanese audience, and through these films, allow our Japanese friends to know more about Hong Kong, our people, culture and way of life. For those who are good old friends of Hong Kong, we hope that our films can refresh their fond memories about Hong Kong,” she said.
